If you’ve ever just wished you can skip over Christmas, or feel guilty for wanting to, we get it. The holidays are complicated for many reasons, but are especially hard if your memories of Christmas aren’t the good kind. That struggle was something Joe and I had to learn to talk about and work through in our marriage.
It’s funny how Christmas can feel so polarizing-it’s like on one end it’s supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year but in reality it can be very painful. Joe and I get caught in that tension. Trying to honor God in this season, hoping to give our children great holiday memories, yet also acknowledging the deep losses in my husband’s life. It’s not always easy to figure out and it’s hard to even talk about. Sometimes our best way to celebrate Christ’s birth is just to bring him that brokenness.
