Who prefers appetizers to a real meal?
MEEEEE!!! My go to meal is nachos. C’mon, how are nachos any different than tacos?
When it comes to homeschooling, you can give your kids educational appetizers – and guess what, many times those appetizers make perfectly good meals. And not just because they can be nourishing, but because your kids want to eat them. They’re fun. They’re easy to pick up. Sometimes you get messy but it’s worth it.
And the best part of an appetizer? Everyone at the table can enjoy them. It’s a shared experience. (No double-dipping though, please.)
I serve my kids lots of educational appetizers. It’s conversations and activities we do that both whets their appetite and fills them up. And in my homeschool, I love it. I want them to fill up.
I know some people are all about not letting your kids have snacks, but if they are good snacks then I say let them eat. Let them ruin their appetite for dinner. One of our favorite Seinfeld quotes, “why can’t I ruin my appetite? There’s another one coming!”
We may start with a cheesy video on YouTube. Fish out books from our home library when a question is asked. I ask them questions. We have hysterical what-if conversations. I let them grab the paper and the scissors and glue. Then a ton of our appetizers are life-skills and things to do around the house. How do you do that? Mom can I try? What will happen if I….
