November is the month we focus on being thankful, which is an area we can always be growing in. But is the reason for our lack of gratitude just a lack of awareness of all we have? Sometimes. In my experience, my lack of gratitude is more often linked to what I think I deserve.
You can’t be grateful for what you feel entitled to. When I think, I did this much good, made this much effort, so of course I should receive that good thing. The focus becomes on my deserved-ness. It’s not a gift, it’s my right. The more we live from a place of what I deserve, the more miserable we become. Receiving a gift becomes impossible and gratitude is out the window.
The week Joe and I are talking about the danger of living from a place of “I deserve….” on the podcast. And how in the end, God does not owe us anything. Any “worthiness” to receive any blessing is a gift itself from Him and through His Son. It’s not our worthiness that matters. We don’t deserve it, yet He still gives so freely and generously. That makes me so grateful!
